After a national tour and rave reviews at Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival, Apples returns to the North East.  And to celebrate we’ve got a whole host of events for you to get involved in both pre-show and post-show.

8–25 Sept 6–8pm (every Wed & Fri)

Generator and BEATS bring emerging young DJs and MCs from the city to Northern Stage‘s foyer, playing their own sets in response to Apples.

Desert Island
Sat 11 Sept 6pm

Maximo Park’s Paul Smith and author Richard Milward discuss their all important books and music. A kind of cultural job swap, they’ll be exploring their love of the other’s art form.  And stick around after the show; both of them will be doing a DJ set in the foyer.  Tickets: £6/ £4. Combine it with a ticket to the show for £12.

The Young Person’s Guide to Living Life Dangerously
Tues 14 Sept, 7pm

Young Teessiders from MIMA’s Modern Times take over Stage 3 to let you know what they really think about life, love and Yates’ Wine Lodge!  A multi-media maelstrom from Middlesbrough’s bright young things.  Tickets: FREE

Writers from Middlesborough based Writers’ Bloc have been working with playwright Carina Rodney to create 10 minute plays, inspired by the themes in Apples.  Selected plays will be read by the actors from Apples.

The winning plays are:

Amber Man by Christopher Stewart
Golm and Gronin are sat on a bench. Join them as they muse on the finer points of teenage life, the chemical plants and Sesame Street.

Location, Location, Location by Timothy Marshall
Middlesbrough station. There is a train approaching but Bill, Tom and Becky are all heading in different directions.

The Man Who Would Be God by John Chadwick
Tim is angry and determined to make his point to the people around him, and the people behind the cameras.

Tickets: £7 inc lunch/£3 reading only.

The Cluny @ Northern Stage
Thurs 16 Sept 9.30–11pm

The Cluny in residence at Northern Stage for one night only. Curated by the guys at The Cluny it features Brilliant Mind, France & the Habsburgs and Dot to Dots.  The bar’ll be open so, go on, dance the night away.  For more info head to the Facebook pageTickets: FREE
